Cinematic Voyages: 20 Unforgettable Cruise Ship Movies

She has one big hit in her past—adapted into a movie and later a mini-series, revered the world over—while her subsequent work has only set smaller fires. But she’s just won a significant award, giving her ego a healthy boost, and has to travel to the United Kingdom to retrieve it. She doesn’t fly, so her resourceful (perhaps conniving) agent, Karen (played by Chan), arranges for Alice to make the Atlantic crossing by boat. Alice invites two old but estranged friends, Susan (Wiest) and Roberta (Bergen), as well as her nephew, Tyler (Hedges). No one is quite sure why they’ve been brought along, but they happily accept the offer.

However, Jerry falls in love with the cruise's dance instructor Gabriella (Roselyn Sánchez) and in order to win her over, he pretends to be gay so he can get closer to her. Meanwhile, Nick blossoms a romance with a bikini model named Inga (Victoria Silvstedt). After an accidental affair with her mean, sex-obsessed coach Sonya (Lin Shaye), Nick must fend her off, after she has fallen in love with him as well.

Captain Ron

Jerry's girlfriend Felicia (Vivica A. Fox) has turned down his marriage proposal after vomiting all over her during a hot air balloon ride during the proposal. After Nick runs into a friend who is marrying a beautiful, younger girl he met on a singles cruise, he decides to take a similar cruise with Jerry. A fire suddenly started inside the ship full of passengers is causing dramatic events.

Jack and Jill

And yet, there is its bleary poignance, closing out the film with a watery smile. One could wax maudlin and say that Let Them All Talk’s boat trip is really a metaphor for another great crossing, from one place to the next. I think the film can support that kind of grandiosity, but it doesn’t require it. A hint of potential romance emerges as Tyler develops a boyish crush on Karen, who has sneaked onto the ship to keep a close eye on her star client and enlists Tyler to be her mole. Let Them All Talk has an easy appeal, inviting us into its journey rather than putting us at an observing distance. Streep plays Alice, a celebrated author of novels who is struggling with her next book.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

Still, Olson teases out the claustrophobic fears felt by the passengers and crew, and the bleakness that sprouts when facts are being hidden. Over 40 poignant minutes, Olson identifies three American couples, the most memorable being Mark and Jerri Jorgensen, heads of an in-patient addiction treatment center for pornography and sex addiction. They are forever chipper even when the situation doesn’t call for their upbeatness. I would say that this film is not one to be watched if you are taking your first cruise and are a bit anxious but will be a lot of fun for seasoned cruises. In my opinion this is one of the best action packed movies that take place on a cruise ship. Whereas the first is set on land this film is set on the Carnival Dream cruise ship.

Classic Movies About Cruise Ships

The 11-deck cruise ship started its journey in Callao-Lima, Peru, on March 31 and is set to end on April 16. At least 28 of the Silver Nova ship’s 633 guests and one of its crew members reported feeling sick during their 16-day voyage from Peru, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Monday. During their trip, they come to learn that gay men are less objectionable than they first assumed.

Mary Cosby allegedly calls Lisa Barlow’s son, 12, the R-word amid ‘RHOSLC’ production

Nearly 30 people aboard a luxury cruise liner known for its phenomenal cuisine have fallen ill thanks to a gastrointestinal outbreak that swept through the ship. Maybe that’s why this not-so-self-serious flick from the director of 1999’s The Mummy has picked up a cult following. The story follows mercenaries intending to rob a luxury cruise ship, but little do they know, the ship is under siege by way of tentacled-creatures who are very hungry for human flesh.

The survivors are left to fight for their lives as they attempt to escape the sinking ship. Eminent critic Roger Ebert defended the film, calling it a "truly rousing ocean liner adventure story". The film was also a box-office bomb, earning $164 million worldwide against a production budget as high as $160 million. It was nominated for eight Golden Raspberry Awards, winning the Worst Remake or Sequel category. With visual precision and remarkable intimacy, Hannah Olson's documentary "The Last Cruise" recalls the harrowing 40-day quarantine aboard the Diamond Princess cruise ship at the outset of the pandemic.

Tell Your Friends

An ordinary foundry worker fakes a love story between him and the chambermaid from RMS Titanic. When ship sinks and chambermaid probably dies, his story gains popularity. A retired auto manufacturer and his wife take a long-planned European vacation only to find that they want very different things from life. A blackmailer demands a huge ransom in exchange for information on how to disarm the seven bombs he placed aboard the transatlantic liner Britannic. An extension of the previous film, wherein a group of adventurers return to the overturned ship to seek several fortunes. A varied group of passengers boarding a ship bound for pre-WWII Germany represents a microcosm of early 1930s society.

The manager (Will Ferrell) attempts to patch things up by handling their booking personally. To Jerry and Nick, the situation appears to be handled well and they leave, not expecting anything to go wrong. After they leave, it is revealed that the agent and manager, both men, are actually gay lovers, and that they have been booked on a cruise for gay men. Jerry (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and Nick (Horatio Sanz) are two close friends whose love lives have hit rock bottom.

This 2006 remake is another that isn’t for those that are anxious about cruising but is a great action packed film. A New Years Eve Party goes awry when a rogue wave hits a cruise ship on a transatlantic crossing. There is a reason this film always features on the top 100 films of all time and as far as I am aware is the only film that makes it into these lists that features a cruise ship. Despite all of these accolades (?) it is still a fun film to watch especially for fans of cruise ships who don’t take things too seriously.

The film combines humour and heartwarming moments, emphasising the importance of family connections and forgiveness. The movie tells the story of Jack Sadelstein, a successful executive, and his identical twin sister Jill, both played by Adam Sandler. As part of their holiday adventure, they join a cruise on the Allure of the Seas, a groundbreaking ship by Royal Caribbean International. Onboard, a blend of sibling rivalry and comedic attempts to matchmake Jill with Al Pacino leads to hilarious chaos and calamity. While much of The Parent Trap takes place on land, there are some scenes set aboard Cunard’s now-retired Queen Elizabeth 2 (they were actually filmed on Queen Mary, which is docked in Long Beach, California). This melodrama directed by Leo McCarey and starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr is considered to be one of the most romantic films of all time.
